More Than 80 Years of Building WA
From Ceilcraft to WA Direct
The family’s story in Western Australia’s building industry began more than 80 years ago with Frederick John Watson, who established the family business shortly after the Second World War.
Starting in the ceiling industry, the business was involved in both manufacturing and installation. As construction methods and materials evolved, the family expanded into plasterboard manufacturing, eventually operating three plasterboard factories in Western Australia.
It was the beginning of a connection to the wall and ceiling industry that would continue through four generations of the Watson family.
More Than a Name
The family’s connection to Western Australia’s wall and ceiling industry has always extended beyond the business itself.
Long before the association became known as AWCI WA, Frederick John Watson was actively involved with the industry organisation and served as President in 1975. Decades later, two of his grandchildren would also serve as Presidents, carrying that involvement into another generation.
Across four generations, knowledge, experience and relationships with builders, suppliers and people across the trade have been passed from one generation to the next.
It is a connection to the industry built not only through business, but through generations of being part of it.
Growing With Western Australia
From the ceiling products of the post-war years to locally manufactured plasterboard and the modern building systems used today, Western Australia’s construction industry has changed considerably over the decades.
The family has changed with it.
Today, WA Direct Plasterboard carries forward more than 80 years of industry involvement and the knowledge gained across four generations of the same family.
